Personal Statement

Passport Photo001

My name is Lee Wang Ting, a second year student studying Applied Chemistry at National University of Singapore. My fascination and interest in Chemistry arose years ago in secondary school, when the lab sessions were brightly coloured and equally exciting. Today, I continue to be fascinated by the intricacies of materials and chemical processes throughout the course.

Over the 12 years I have been in the Singapore education system, I have been exposed to a myriad of interesting subjects and activities. I have had the privilege of exploring many of these activities in my co-curricular activities. As section leader of my secondary school Chinese Orchestra, our school managed to clinch the Gold award at the biannual Singapore Youth Festival competition. In my junior college hockey team, we managed to overcome great odds to come in third place. I managed to earn the rank of Lieutenant during my short two-year stint in the Singapore Armed Forces. My involvement in all these activities has brought me to realize the importance of team work, leadership and discipline.

In the long run, I hope to contribute to the salvation of Earth from global warming and other environmental problems. The condition of the Earth has worsened so much in the last few hundred years that we’re fighting an uphill battle, but I believe there is still hope. I believe that passionate young people such as myself could focus their energy and passion towards this noble cause. By embarking on research projects and education schemes, we can make a difference for the betterment of our environment.
